Areas of Care
Your Questions, Answered
-
People seek acupuncture for a wide range of health concerns, including acute and chronic pain, back and neck pain, headaches and migraines, stress, anxiety, sleep difficulties, digestive concerns, women’s health, and overall well-being.
At Savasta Acupuncture in Marblehead, treatments are individualized to each patient. Because East Asian medicine looks at the body as an interconnected whole, care considers not only your primary concern, but also the broader patterns that may be affecting how you feel.
-
Acupuncture needles are extremely thin—much finer than the needles used for injections or blood draws. Most people feel little to no discomfort with insertion, although you may notice sensations such as warmth, heaviness, tingling, or a gentle ache around certain points.
Many patients find acupuncture deeply relaxing, and it is not uncommon to fall asleep during treatment. For those who are nervous about needles or particularly sensitive, gentler techniques and non-needle options may also be incorporated.
-
Your first appointment begins with a conversation about your health history, current concerns, lifestyle, and treatment goals. We may also use traditional diagnostic methods such as pulse, tongue, abdominal, or meridian assessment to better understand the patterns contributing to how you are feeling.
From there, your treatment is tailored specifically to you and may include acupuncture along with other complementary techniques when appropriate. We will explain the process along the way and make sure you feel comfortable, informed, and supported throughout your visit.
-
We recommend eating a light meal or snack before your appointment and arriving well hydrated. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing whenever possible, although appropriate draping can be provided when access to certain areas of the body is needed.
Please bring or be prepared to share information about any medications, supplements, recent diagnoses, or other treatments that may be relevant to your care. Most importantly, come as you are—there is no special preparation required.
-
There is no one-size-fits-all treatment plan. The number and frequency of visits depend on several factors, including the nature of your concern, how long it has been present, your overall health, and your individual response to acupuncture.
Some people notice changes after only a few treatments, while chronic or complex concerns may benefit from a longer course of care. We will continually assess your progress and discuss recommendations with you along the way.

Chinese and Japanese acupuncture share the same foundations in East Asian medicine but can differ in diagnostic methods, needling techniques, and treatment style. Japanese acupuncture often emphasizes palpation and subtle changes in the body and may use finer needles and gentler stimulation.
Stephanie is trained in both Chinese and Japanese styles of acupuncture and draws from each approach at her Marblehead practice. Treatments are not limited to a single style; techniques are selected and adapted based on each patient’s needs, constitution, sensitivity, and response to treatment.

Depending on your individual needs and preferences, treatment may incorporate complementary techniques such as cupping, gua sha, moxibustion, auriculotherapy, electroacupuncture, Tui Na, Sotai, laser acupuncture, acupressure, or other approaches drawn from East Asian medicine.
For patients interested in a broader mind-body-spirit approach, Stephanie also has training in Medical Qigong, Shamanic Reiki, Tong Ren Therapy, aromatherapy, nutritional counseling, ceremony and ritual-based healing, and the therapeutic use of stones and crystals. These approaches are never one-size-fits-all and are incorporated thoughtfully based on your goals, interests, and comfort level.
